A Little History of the Layhill South Citizens Association
Most of Layhill South houses were built around 1965, as part of the post-WWII building boom. The area is bounded by woods to the north, Kennedy High on the east, Randolph on the south and Layhill on the west. The Layhill South Citizens Association (LSCA) civic group includes the Layhill South and Village Green North subdivisions in the Glenmont section of Silver Spring. Memberships are voluntary and we have no HOA function.
LSCA was founded in the early 1990s by a group of concerned citizens. They were responsible for getting the speed bumps on Briggs and one of our members , Ken Cohen , a sound engineer, worked with WMATA to insure that the noise levels coming from the Glenmont Station were within acceptable levels. Members have also given community input on the commercial expansion of the Glenmont metro station and the new Georgia Avenue/Randolph Road intersection.
LSCA has offered forums on neighborhood security, Glenmont sector plan inprovements, Kennedy High School community relations and other issues. They sponsor an annual backyard picnic, a spring event and community yard sales. LSCA is included in the Nextdoor website and has a listserv. The LSCA mission is to enhance our neighborhood and make it a vital, caring, safe and responsible place for its residents. We welcome your participation and involvement.
