Taking Out the Trash

Everything you need to know about disposing of trash, recycling, yard trimmings, and other waste.

The Basics

Montgomery County provides trash and recycling pick up for our neighborhood. Pick up is once a week on FRIDAYS for both trash and recyclable items. Check out the Holiday Schedule to find out if trash will be picked up on Saturday instead.

If you don’t know how to dispose of something –paint, bicycle, books, oil, etc.–, use THIS TOOL to find out how.

Yard Trimmings

Yard Trimmings are also picked up on Fridays. Be sure to put them in paper yard waste bags or in bins labeled “Yard Trim”. You can request “Yard Trim” stickers from the county free of charge. Big items need to be taken to the Transfer Station.

BIG STUFF

If you have large that you want to dispose of that won’t fit in your bins –think water tank, mattress, table, etc.–, you can make a bulk trash collection request. You can make up to 5 requests per calendar year.

You can also make a request for scrap metal collection.

Share with Neighbors

If you’re looking to get rid of items that you think other neighbors may use, consider joining the local Buy Nothing Project Facebook Group. One neighbor’s trash can be another neighbor’s treasure!

Compost

Composting is a great way to reduce the amount of waste picked sent to the dump. The County provides free composting bins to residents. Find out where you can get them!
